People's minds are changed through observation and not through argument. ~ Will Rogers
Pondering this today and wondering how to apply it to a situation that is causing me great sadness. We've already spent far too much time and energy arguing; and we are no closer to resolving our differences.
What frustrates me most is that most of the arguments set forth aren't even logical.
Questions like, "What do you mean by all"?
Well ... what do you think I mean by "all"? I mean all! Every, todos, ALL.
Is that really so hard, one little 3 letter word?
I think not.
"Who are you to question God?"
I'm not questioning God at all, what I am questioning is your interpretation of Him.
And for what it's worth, I don't think it bothers God one bit for me to question Him ... He's big enough to deal with questions from His children.
Lots and lots of words ... my words, other people's words, more importantly- God's WORD; but words aren't working here, and I am simply tired of both talking and listening.
So, maybe the only thing to do now is be quiet, pray without ceasing, continue to walk in love ... and leave the rest up to God.
What do you do when words don't work?
Pray for my friends please?

Hi Catherine,
ReplyDeleteI've been going through something like this with my dad. He's just starting to dip his toes into the idea that there is a God. But he's quick to argue about the concept of religion too. So I've decided that when God wants me to be His hands and feet, His words for my dad, He will work through me. Until then, I need to leave well enough alone and allow the other stronger Christian influences that my dad is willing to listen to, do their part. Sometimes we just need to be present and show God's light shining through us. Other times God will speak through our words.
Blessings,
Rosann

Oh, dear Catherine,
ReplyDeleteI have been where you are. I have passionately tried to witness to friends and the words fall on deaf ears! But I have found that our best witness is in sharing what God is to us...what having a relationship with our Creator has meant in our lives. There can be no argument there. It simply is. We share a relationship with the King of kings! I will pray that the Holy Spirit will open your friends ears and hearts to Him. In the meantime may you find reassurance in these words~
...what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. Romans 1.19b-20
I pray, too, that the Holy Spirit will open their eyes to see...
Blessings!
I will pray for your friends, and if there is an answer, I need to hear it also.
ReplyDeleteThank you ladies. The very sad thing about the situation is that my dear friends already know God - but have decided after many, many years of serving Him that they have learned the "true gospel" ... which is far from good news.
