Nasturtiumand
Nettle.
Nasturtiums are
nice. Pretty round leaves, lovely flowers, all edible even the seedpods. Some people pickle the seedpods and use them like capers. Can't say I've ever done that, but then I don't really use capers much either. I do love to nibble on a leaf or two and sometimes add them and the flower petals to a salad. Someday I'm going to stuff some nasturtium flowers with cream cheese for teatime, very pretty treats those are. I planted a variety that is said to grow 4' in one season ... it's going to have to speed up quite a bit if it gets anywhere near that before the heat zaps it, but we'll see what happens. Lots and lots of nasturtiums to choose from
here .
And now for one of my favorite herbs ...
Nettle!Nettle is very
nice, too. Well ... not necessarily
nice tasting (Though some people say they like it, I don't, but endure the flavor due to its wonderful healthful benefits ... think
medicinal herb here.), but it is so very good for you! Yes, I mean stinging nettle, which really feels anything but nice should you accidentally brush against it while hiking or wandering in the woods (if that should happen, look around for some plantain herb and rub it the sting.) But, aside from its rather prickly disposition,
Nettle really is a
natural when it comes to helpful herbs. Nettle can be cooked and eaten like spinach or other greens- you'll want to wear gloves when picking and be very careful until you've cooked them. The sting goes away once they're all cooked up. Nettle tea is also a very
nourishing drink, and will provide you with calcium, iron, vitamin C, and a whole bunch of other
necessary nutrients. I make
nettle vinegar which is great for those days that your nose is itchy and allergies are making you feel not so nice. And since I have no time for posting the instructions now ... if you'll
click here you can read how I make Nettle Vinegar & Honey for allergy relief. It works wonders, at least for me! I also sometimes use the nettle vinegar without honey for a hair rinse. And no, I don't smell like a pickle ... well, not after my hair dries! :)

OK, now I must go and make some tea ...
