Apple Squares
Preheat oven to 350. Grease 9X9 baking pan.
1 cup whole wheat flour ( you can use unbleached white flour if you prefer)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup powdered milk
1 tsp. baking powder
pinch of salt
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg
2/3 cup water
3 medium apples, peeled and sliced
1/3 cup raisins
1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
In a large bowl combine flour, 1/4 cup brown sugar, powdered milk, baking powder, salt, and cloves.
In a small bowl, mix egg & water. Add to flour mixture, stir well.
Pour into prepared pan and spread evenly.
Place sliced apples over batter and sprinkle on raisins (you can add chopped nuts if you like)
Stir 1/4 cup brown sugar and cinnamon together. Sprinkle over apples.
Bake 35 minutes. Cool before cutting into squares.
